Our adoption projects
dehonian adoption projects
Currently, Secretariat for Foreign Missions of the Priests of the Sacred Heart is running five adoption projects on three continents. Nearly 400 children have been cared for materially and spiritually.

Adoption of Light in India

The Adoption of Light in India project is responding to the needs of the Jyothi Seva (Servant of the Light) school and boarding school for blind children in Nongbah, India, run by the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross. Given that nearly 70% of the Indian population lives on less than three dolars a day, unfortunately most parents cannot afford the costs associated with the education of their disabled children. Drops of help from individual Dehonian Donors are coming together, guaranteeing a better tomorrow for 50 children in northeastern India.

Adoption of Light in Rwanda

In Kibeho - a place known for the Church-approved apparitions of Mother Mary, Mother of the Word - the Franciscan Sisters Servants of the Cross opened Rwanda's first school and educational center for blind children in 2008. Today there is an elementary and secondary school in Kibeho, and the students live in boarding schools. The sisters provide their 195 charges with boarding houses, food, medical care and everything they need for their healthy and fullest development. All of this is made possible by the Adoption of Light in Rwanda project.

Adoption of Love in Bolivia

The Sisters of the Congregation of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Bolivia have created the Hogar de Niñas San Francisco (Home for the Girls of Saint Francis) in Cochabamba, which houses 70 girls - orphans between the ages of 5 and 24. They have experienced neglect, violence and even molestation. It is through Adoption of Love that the sisters provide the girls with housing, food, medical care, school supplies, education, and extra classes to support them in their learning difficulties.

Adoption of Hope in Bolivia

A similar thing is happening in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where a project called Adoption of Hope has taken care over the Hogar de la Esperanza (House of Hope) run by the Sister of The Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of Sorrows. Most of the wards are children of convicts from the local Palmasola prison. Their difficult lives require that they be provided with comprehensive educational, psychological and medical care. For the children living there, this is the only home they have and know.

Adoption of the Hearts in the Philippines

In the Philippines, Dehonian missionaries have established the Heart House for Girls in Cagayan de Oro on the island of Mindanao. It's a place where girls can regain inner balance and a sense of security after the harm of sexual violence often suffered from family members.... At this home they receive comprehensive support: a roof over their heads, food, clothing, medical, psychological and legal care, as well as school books. A key element of the program is to provide the abused children with a solid education that will give them independence in the future. All this is made possible precisely by Adoption of the Hearts project.
