All funds donated in July 2026 to the “Donation for missions where it is most needed” fund will be used to help the victims of the earthquake in Venezuela.

At the Secretariat for Foreign Missions, our "emergency fund" is the "Donation for missions where it is most needed" fund. The lives and ministry of our missionaries are often disrupted by unexpected events. This fund enables us to provide immediate financial assistance in emergency situations such as natural disasters (typhoons, floods, earthquakes) and armed conflicts. It also allows us to respond to urgent needs within local communities, including access to clean water, food assistance for children, as well as evangelization and educational initiatives. 

The donations entrusted to this fund make it possible to respond quickly to requests from our missionaries when help cannot wait. One such case involved Sorelle from Cameroon, a final-year medical student. She lost her leg in a motorcycle accident and faced the possibility of having to abandon her studies. At the request of Fr. Antoni Osowski, a former missionary, we provided EUR 2,000 (approximately USD 2,400) to purchase a prosthetic leg for her. Thanks to this support, Sorelle is walking again and will be able to complete her medical degree. Today she is the one who has received help; tomorrow, as a doctor, she will be able to save the lives and health of others. It is a beautiful reminder that every act of generosity can bear fruit far beyond what we can imagine.

In 2025, a total of USD 193,400 was distributed from this fund to support:

• the renovation of the chapel roof in the Democratic Republic of the Congo;
• the replacement of the electrical system in a kindergarten in South Africa;
• the purchase of solar panels for the Dehonian community house in South Africa;
• the purchase of X-ray equipment for a hospital in Madagascar;
• the furnishing of a soup kitchen for people in need in Cuba;
• the purchase of school supplies for children in Tanzania;
• the construction of a well in the Democratic Republic of the Congo;
• medical scholarships for Nomena and Jimmy in Madagascar;
• the purchase of furniture for a rehabilitation centre in Georgia;
• the construction of a formation house in Burundi;
• an English language course for Dehonian students in South Africa;
• the equipment of a medical laboratory in Tanzania.
