29 Sierpnia Meetings
A small village, seven inhabitants... and a big mission

In recent days, we had the great pleasure of hosting Fr. Jarek Grzegorczyk SCJ – a missionary who serves in Albania – at the Mission House in Olsztyn. This was one of those encounters that remain in the memory for a long time. His stories were a true lesson in humility, gratitude, and a deep understanding of how necessary and beautiful missionary service is.

Edyta: The stories we heard showed me that every person matters a great deal. Missionaries reach even the smallest villages - sometimes just a few people - and preach the Gospel to each one of them. For me, it was also moving to see that in Albania, when people leave the church - even just going down the stairs - they stop, turn toward the Lord Jesus, and make the sign of the cross. In our country, you don’t always see this… And yet it is such a simple, yet profound testimony of faith.

Sylwia: Through this meeting, we learned more about the realities of life in Albania - a country where Catholics have been persecuted for years and today make up only about 10% of the population. The missionary even travels to a village where only seven people live - including three with disabilities and two elderly residents. This is a powerful testimony to the care shown for each individual. I was also touched by the stories of the difficulties in accessing medicine, the heat that stretches the summer holidays from mid-June to mid-September, and the special reverence Albanians have for St. John.

This visit made us realize how easy it is to witness to the faith in Poland - and how rarely we appreciate that fact. The missionaries' stories remind us how precious religious freedom is, and how great a mission is being carried out by those who preach the Gospel in places where it’s not always easy to do so.

Thank you!
