On May 20, 2025, the official consecration of the Dehonian Center of Spirituality in the Philippines took place.
The Sacred Heart Center of Spirituality in Lucoban, Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur, was officially blessed on May 20, 2025, by His Excellency Archbishop Martin S. Jumoada, surrounded by Dehonian priests from the Philippines and Vietnam, the clergy of the Pagadian diocese, benefactors, and friends.
This ceremony not only marked the completion of a long-awaited project but also marked the 36th anniversary of the Dehonians' presence in the Philippines.
Once again, we thank everyone who supported the project to build the Center of Spirituality in the Philippines. Our Secretariat for Foreign Missions donated PLN 324,395 for this purpose.
Romeo Reyes, chairman of the parish council of the Dehonian parish of St. Isidore in Dumalinao, spoke about the need for the center:
There is no formation house in the Pagadian diocese! When a parish group organizes a retreat, they are forced to rent hotels or schools. It will be a place for healing, the renewal of marriage vows, and a profound experience of faith. It will also be a "sanctuary of peace and quiet," as the house is located on a hill overlooking Pagadian Bay and the green fields of Dumalinao. The newly established Center of Spirituality is also intended to help curb the departure of Catholics to other religions. Mindanao has a large Muslim community, and in addition to Catholics, there are many Protestant churches. Numerous sects also wreak havoc on the spiritual lives of Filipinos.
Born of faith, built with perseverance, and supported by the love and generosity of Dehonian entities from Germany, the USA, Poland, and Indonesia, the Center will now serve as a place of formation, prayer, and peace. It is a place where peace can be built and developed, said Archbishop Jumoad.
We wish all these good plans and hopes to come true!
Vivat Cor Iesu!
